COZY AIRSTREAM OASIS

SAUSALITO, CALIFORNIA

OBJECTIVE

Transform a standard issue Airstream trailer into a stylish yet comfortable refuge.

Nicknamed "Oasis", I transformed this standard issue 22' Airstream into an extremely stylish portable home for a middle-aged couple and their two small dogs who liked to road trip and also go to festivals.

The original trailer had all the comforts of home including a full kitchen, convertible dinette, full bathroom and queen size bed. Design-wise, it was a blank slate with uninspired textiles and no organizational solutions other than what the factory provided.

To upgrade this trailer, I changed out all the textiles, and also added new textures to really cozy up the space. I swapped out boring silver mini blinds with spring action roller shades. I designed and fabricated fun custom valences that coordinated with the new textiles. This included new designer throw pillows, a new blackout curtain, high end sheets and custom made duvet cover, and some cozy sheepskin to soften the dinette.

In addition, I installed a bold geometric wallpaper at one end, and sprinkled it throughout as well. In the bathroom, I installed white wallpaper with organic polka dots on the walls and curved ceiling. Finally, I added 3d tile to the kitchen as well as the bathroom for a fun backsplash effect.

To address functionality, I added two custom walnut mirrors to the main living space and bathroom, as well as a full length mirror in the closet. In the kitchen, shatter resistant white dinnerware and custom caddies for real wine glasses made for classy camping. Finally, hooks, shelves and rods were installed throughout the space to really customize the functionality.
