Modern architecture, curated soul
NOPA, San Francisco
Designed for a San Francisco bachelor with a deep appreciation for design and an eclectic collection of mid-century art, this newly constructed, ultra-modern home was transformed into a sophisticated, masculine sanctuary. The crisp white walls were intentionally preserved to serve as a clean, gallery-style backdrop, while the addition of luxurious finishes contributes to a calming retreat just steps away from the bustling city.
A refined material palette
To ground the dramatic warmth of the Brazilian cherry floors and honor the soaring ceilings, the design leans into a tactile balance of high-contrast textures. Crisp marble elements and sharp architectural lines are softened by plush Moroccan rugs, leather, and neutral layered textiles. This dialogue between hard and soft surfaces is anchored by handcrafted Fireclay tile running throughout, introducing a rich, artisanal geometry that brings vital warmth and a tailored soul to the minimalist architecture.
Bringing a layer of historic soul to the ultra-modern architecture, the home's furnishings represent a careful dialogue between custom design and vintage curation. Bespoke pieces were drafted specifically to complement the scale and sharp lines of the new construction. In contrast, mid-century vintage furniture injects rich patina. This thoughtful tension ensures that the home feels deeply personal and perfectly attuned to the client's art collection.
